# TakoDown

> TakoDown (小章鱼下载) is a cross-platform desktop downloader for macOS, Windows and Linux. It downloads files over HTTP / HTTPS with multiple threads, BitTorrent and magnet links, videos from YouTube, Bilibili and other sites (yt-dlp built in), HLS / DASH streams, and FTP / SFTP. A browser extension hands browser downloads to it, and a command line tool and MCP server let terminals and AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex download through it.

Latest version: 0.1.0. The app's interface is in Simplified Chinese for now; English arrives with version 1.0.

- Multi-threaded downloads: files split into segments downloaded in parallel, resumed after interruptions and retried on failure
- BitTorrent and magnet links, with the files of a torrent to choose
- Video sites: quality and subtitles to choose, audio only or MP3
- HLS / DASH streams, FTP / SFTP
- Links found in pasted text, grouped and deduplicated; batches managed together
- A mini panel in the menu bar (macOS) and tray (Windows, Linux)
- Browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave and Arc: takes over downloads, passes cookies along for files behind a sign-in, sends links and video pages from the context menu
- Command line: `tako add <url>`, `tako ls`, `tako pause|resume|rm`
- MCP server: `tako mcp install --client claude-code` (also cursor); Codex and other clients run `tako mcp` over stdio
